Post 1: Introducing myself again

Hi, new mates, I will introduce myself again. My name is Camila Castillo, I'm in fifth year of Agronomy and I hope next year will be the last year jej. If you want to now more about me, check out the other posts of the previous semester. At this new semester, I would like to write about the future, what are the plans of each one. I see many classmates of early years of the carreer, and It would be good to see diferent perspectives when you first enter the university o when you know more about the carreer or different subjects.

Evaluation of blog experience

In general, it was a good experience, since I was able to reinforce writing, grammar, and reading. It was good to be able to express some opinions on topics, but I think that, after each post, we didn't have a discussion of the topics as a whole, since personally my greatest weakness is expressing myself orally in English, I lack a lot of practice, and I see that most of my classmates also lack that. So to talk about different topics is what we should do.  Another problem was the teacher's delay in delivering the corrections. I think we should have received corrections every week for the post we made that week, so we could see where we were failing. As I saw in another post, I think a good idea is to read long texts in English and write about them in a post, summarize them and give opinions about them, since it could help us a lot for the thesis and postgraduate work where we have to read many scientific texts in English. I hope you consider these ideas for the next leve...

End of semester: The storm before the calm.

I would love to say, that I finished my semester, but there are still missing second and third tests, and exams, and all that concentrated in a single month, so, the stress will be my best friend. Well, I think I'm exaggerating, since I've had a worse semester. I have only 6 subject this semester, including English. And most are subjects of little demand, such as professional practice, where they give you tips for job interviews, good oral presentations, and links with companies related to my career . My favorite subjects will always be the postgraduate ones, since they are related to all the topics that one is interested in, some more than others, my area is winemaking, but I'm interested in almost all topics related to agro-industry But I also have backward subjects like "agricultural systems", and tomorrow I have the first test, where topics such as: balance of energy, water balance, carbon balance, and all the factors of the balance relate to each other...

Free Topic

After thinking a lot, I decided to talk about something that accompanies me every day. I'm going to talk about my transport, my piece of aluminum with wheels that brings me every day to university. I mean my bicycle. I still remember when my parents bought me my first bicycle. Its was from the brand Juanito Mena. My grandfather went out with me to streets of the town to teach me how to drive it. It wasn't easy and I suffered many falls but when I learned, I never got off of her again. Later , at 10 years old, my parents bought me a bicycle with a torpedo brake, I was very fast in my streets, with my friends we did competitions and we were very happy. Thanks to the fact that the bicycle has been part of my whole life and I only have beautiful memories, it is because today it captivates me so much. Today I try to use it always, I have participated in several cycling groups for routes every weekend, I go every year to the bike to Lo Vasquez, and my goal is to travel t...

A career-related website

http://germinalaflorida.blogspot.com/ Well, it`s time to talk about a website that I enjoy, related to my career. I chose this website because it`s not just a information website, also it is a project of my commune. Germina is a social organization of neighbors to the commune of La Florida, an interdisciplinary team with the motivation of making this place a more friendship territory trought the creation of green areas in a abandoned sites, self-sustentability, self-management and the promotion of good living. They have a blog that I follow, where I can find crop information, present information, activities information, a map of urban gardens, planting calendars, contingency, opinions and videos. They also have social networks, like Facebook, where they constantly communicate their activities and event, like worshops, marches, meetings, etc. I think it's a good network of union and neighborhood organization , where it is possible to learn to live sustainably, lear everythin...

Climate change and our commitment as agronomists.

Climate change is one of the issues that most affect the world and humanity today. On the one hand, I think it is related to cycles that the planet earth, but also, to the action of man. A very close and contemporary example is what is happening today in Petorca. An extreme drought was caused by the imminent rise in temperatures of the earth but mainly due to a conflict of interest between authorities and big businessmen, who for years dominated the area with large extensive crops of avocados, drying the river, almost dying groundwater, and leaving small producers in poverty. As with this case, there are many others in the world that go unnoticed until natural disasters happen. So, the human influence on climate change is evident through many activities such as mining, transportation, livestock, fishing, agriculture. That is why as agronomists we have to be very involved with the consequences that our activities can cause, it is important to use renewable energies, to respect the ...

Worthwhile efforts

Image
This beautiful trip was in 2017 with my boyfriend, a long trip throught Chilean patagonia. There are many other nice photos of the trip but this is a special photo because represent our tiredness after the effort but at the same time represent our fullness and joy for being in the middle of that beautiful landscape. This is the top of the `Cerro Castillo´.  This trekking we did completely alone and without asking for advice, so we inadvertently used the longer way,  6 hours going up and 4 going down. But we had good weather and everything went well. The photo was taken by another person who was on top. After that, we went further south, we did many trekking and we saw beautiful landscapes, until we reached the lagoon and San rafael glacier. I hope to return very soon this year and be able to get further south, and someday I will definitely do it by bicycle, but I have to train for that.
