Post 7: Environmental Conflicts

For us as Agronomists, who work directly with the earth's resources, the care of the environment and the issues related to the environmental conflict should concern us.
Since there are resources that to some extent, depend on us, such as water and soil, it is up to us to change the paradigm that, for agronomists, business is not just business.
An example very related to this is what happened in Petorca, a province that is in the current list of shortage decrees, thanks to the greedy idea of ​​four families to take over the water rights of the sector and handle them without any care.
In addition to planting thousands of hectares of monocultures of avocados, which are species that consume a lot of water, in a soil with little retention.
They were years and years that the government never fiscalized them.

There are also industrial problems such as the example given by the teacher, Quintero / Ventana the biggest environmental problem these days, where we can realize that the government is not interested in regulating that there are "areas of sacrifice"."Areas of sacrifice"are places that suffer from depredation, left by the State to the ravages of industrial devastation, with serious detrimental effects on the Environment and Health of local communities. Today in Chile there are mainly 4: Tocopilla, Mejillones, Huasco, Quintero and Coronel.

Thus we realize that the state is totally colluded with the economic sector, the State must guarantee that these areas don`t exist but they do the opposite, and when people want to protest against these catastrophes, State repress them and they can kill leaders saying it was suicide.

What are we talking about? It is something totally unworthy in a society where it is said that there is democracy.

Hi mates!  I do not like to be self-referent but its time to talk a little about me. My name is Camila Castillo, as you know. I was born in Santiago (I've lived my whole life in this city) and I studied at a school in La Florida all my high school. Good learning times and few responsibilities. In this times I discovered my skills for music and drawing. First I learned to play the guitar in a music academy and later a trumpet, autonomously and with friends. In this point in time was when I formed my first band. A band with many influences, like, jazz, ska, rhythm and blues. This band didn't last long because we all leaved far away and I entered to University. My first career was Design in Universdad de Chile. I chose this career for my drawing abilities and the love for creativity and the avant-garde. But then I realized that I didn't want to spend all my time in front of a computer and I started thinking that I wanted to make with my life.
